Since 1 October 2026, renewing your period of stay or changing your status of residence in Japan costs between 10,000 and 75,000 yen. Until 30 September it was 6,000 yen at the counter, whatever the period. The new fee depends on the period you are granted, and which periods you can be granted depends on your status, so the agency's fee table alone does not tell you what you will pay. Google suggests "phí gia hạn visa nhật 2026" in Vietnamese and "biaya perpanjang visa tokutei ginou" in Indonesian. So I built a calculator for it, in the seven languages of the Hub.
Your status, every period
The visa renewal fee calculator asks for your status of residence, whether you apply at the counter or online, and when the office received your application. For an engineer or humanities worker, five years cost 75,000 yen, which is 15,000 a year. One year costs 33,000, so five one-year renewals add up to 165,000. Online, the five years cost 65,000.

When the period is set for each person
Specified Skilled Worker (i), students, dependents and technical interns have no fixed list of periods. The immigration office sets one for each person, up to a limit: three years for Specified Skilled Worker (i). For these statuses the calculator shows the fee for each length up to that limit, and the period on your new residence card decides which one you pay.

Applied in September?
If the office received your application by 30 September 2026, you pay the old 6,000 yen, even when permission comes in October or later. Below the calculator, the page lists the periods each of 20 statuses can be granted, taken from the enforcement rules of the Immigration Control Act, with the fee range for each.

One fix from today as well: if you sign in or sign up from japan.allkeep.org, you now come back to the page you were on, with your figures, instead of the AllKeep home page.
